The main objective of our investigation was to prepare and characterise some compositions of the SiO2-Al2O3-PbO-CaO-Na2O system, containing PbO and Na2O oxides in similar ratios to the nonvolatile fraction of wastes from an acid battery plant. The influence of Na2O and PbO content on the glass properties was investigated by Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA) and electrical conductivity measurements in the molten state up to 1900 K. The chemical stability was determined by leaching tests and by room temperature MAS NMR spectroscopy of the glass after leaching.
